Wrangler JK Build Quote Comments

Hey everyone, thanks for answering my questions a few weeks ago. I went ahead and contacted like 5 shops and this is the quote from the shop that had the best recommendations from some guys I know. I would like to hear what your thoughts are on this build quote. Let me know!

I’ve never used that brand of gear, so I cant comment on that. That ratio is what I would run.

Two questions.

  1. what’s the milage on the Jeep
  2. Are you replacing the front drive shat due to the lift and who is building it.

You need to be careful who builds the drive shaft. If they use cheep parts it wont last but a few years. I didn’t know this and got burned by a popular drive shaft manufacture. Cant remember the name off the top of my head.

My Jeep has 89,000 miles. I don’t know the info about the driveshaft but the shop itself has perfect reviews online and firsthand reviews from many people I know, so they were highly recommended to me.

Are they replacing it because of the lift or your driveshaft is broken.

My Cruiser with a 4" lift needed a CV front shaft. My TJ with 6" did not. Both of them required a CV rear shaft.

People who install lifts either have that vehicle type and know exactly what you need or they install lifts and recommend based on what they think you need.

Do some research on why you need to replace it due to lifting. Also research that ring and pinion manufacture.

My OCD about vehicle builds is from a lifetime of doing this professionally and decades of rescuing broken vehicles.

OH…Remembered the drive shaft place. JE Reel. I have had two bad experiences, several from other people and the other drive shaft builders have been able to recognize their poor work without me telling them who made it. Literally, “This wouldn’t happen to be a JE Reel drive shaft?”

Next up, steering and chromoly axles?

It looks like wheel spacers are being recommended and included. Is this to fit the new tires on existing OEM wheels? Better solution would be new wheels with proper backspacing for new wider tires. If using existing wheels with spacers you will want to verify how much the tires will poke out and whether that is acceptable to you.

I agree. It is better to go with wheels that have the proper offset than using spacers.

Revolution is good. Nothing wrong with those gears.

There are better coils out there than JKS.

If you go 2.5" you can likely avoid drive shaft replacement.

35s may not “need” a spare tire reinforcement . I never had them when running 35s.

Labor feels high for lift install.

Regear is slightly high, too. I’d expect to be around $2500 with gears.

I’d make changes and go with adjustable control arms instead of geometry bracket. And I’d skip spacers and get wheels with less backspacing.

Happy to chat more. It’s late for me.
